suleymaniye mosque, istanbul
Day 40: On our second day in Istanbul we went for a wander and came across the Sulimaniye Mosque, not too far from the Grand Bazaar. İt was much quieter than the Blue Mosque we saw the previous day, and a wonderful sight.
Dating to the 16th century, the mosque had magnificent grounds, an impressive courtyard and a spacious interior decorated simply and warmly. We’ll be visiting many more mosques as we swing through the Middle East. However this was a magnificent monument to İslam and one that will remain in my memory for a long time to come.
