anyone for a swim amongst the roman rubble?

pamukkale ancient baths (roman ruins)Day 35: Now here’s a great spot. Public baths, fed by a hot springs, just down from the ancient theatre at Heirapolis, in which you swim amongst rubble dating back to Roman era.

I never found out whether they just didn’t bother to excavate the old columns and remnants of statues away from the location of the baths, or whether they decided to back up a truck and dump some of the rubble in for atmosphere, but either way, it’s a pretty unique experience.

It helps create the impression that there is so many Roman remnants that the Turks can afford to leave some of it lying around for people to clamber on as they are having a swim. If some of this stuff was in Australia, it would be in a museum behind glass.

Thanks to our friend Jess for tipping us off on this good little spot.
