an unexpected find at pamukkale

hierapolis ancient ampitheatre at pamukkale (kate)Day 34: Late in the afternoon, we came across the Hieropolis ruins at the top of the climb up the travertines of Pamukkale.

While the ancient city of Hierapolis is largely unreconstructed, its magnificent theatre, just 5 minutes walk from the ancient baths, is.

Possibly my favourite ancient theatre to date, it was intimate and tightly stepped, but what really set it apart was the view back over the limestone pools of Pamukkale and beyond them to the surrounding countyside.

The fact that Kate and I were literally the only people there, as dusk fell, may also have coloured my judgment.
