travel ready haircut

Andrew DempsterDay -6: I took my life into my hands on the weekend when I decided to get a travel-ready haircut in preparation for the trip. The danger didn’t come from an unqualified barber in the backstreets of Bondi Junction, but the fact that I proceeded with this dangerous plan without informing Kate.

Fortunately I’ve escaped without so much as a censure. Despite previous warnings by my devoted wife that if I cut my hair off, it may never grow back, she seems to have adapted fairly well to the change, even to the point of claiming that I have a “nicely shaped head”.

Advantages of a short haircut while on the road include:

  • no need to pack a hairbrush or even a comb (saves 50 grams packing weight);
  • no need to give difficult instructions to foreign barbers; and
  • provides Andrew with an excuse to get a haircut that would otherwise be prohibited (contributed by Kate).

That’s a fabulous look for you. And so practical! No further haircuts until you return to Oz…

All you need now is some John Lennon glasses and Birkenstocks, and you could easily pass for a German tourist! Only kidding, you do have a nicely shaped head - phrenologists would kill to get their hands on it.

Ah Bi. You were just *dying* to use the word “phrenologist” in a sentence, weren’t you? Admit it!

Andy also returned with a cupcake. Obviously thought he could appease me with gifts of food… which, OK, has worked in the past.

Love the hair cut Andrew!! Make sure you put suncream on your head, nothing worse than a burnt scalp!

hmmmm…starting to sound like a fanatical light weight walker!!
Other things you can do to loose carry weight:
1) drill holes in your tooth brush handle
2) no wait…cut off the handle why do you need it anyway! (I admit to doing this)
3) hold on…teeth…i mean who really needs them?
4) really the best way to save weight is to share it…sharing the tooth brush, med kit, slr, laptop between 2 isnt as good as sharing between 3…ever thought of polygamy to save weight?
Just how hard core are you??

This is the lentil currying Dempster I remember mooning around B&G corridors - shaved and dangerous.

May I also recommend a beard. Especially if you are staying in consistently cheap hotels with no hot water. Or if you are in a conservative Islamic country.

Amigo… I seem to remember shaving your head some years ago. Always a good look. As for a beard… http://www.flickr.com/photos/spangledrongo/889951740/
