trollstigen (the troll’s ladder)
Day 7: One of the great things about our week in Norway has been the complete lack of detailed planning on our part. Instead, we’ve turned up and placed ourselves in the hands of our brother Tim and have been led around from place to place. Today was probably the apex of our unexpected wonder as we stumbled from one incredible sight to the next.
The day started driving on the main road westwards from Dombas down a beautiful valley, before turning off to take the incredible road to Trollstigen. Known as the “Troll’s Ladder”, this road twists up 11 consecutive hairpin bends to scale the mighty mountain in front of you, passing over a dramatically placed bridge over the Stigfossen waterfall.
It’s truly a road engineer’s dream and the view itself from the top is incredible.
After giant-sized Norwegian icecreams on the top (along with hordes of other tourists who flock to this incredible spot and are driven up from cruise ships for the experience), we continued along the road towards Gerainger.
