hiking in norway: from trollheimshytta to gjevilvashytta
Day 6: We made it! Back to civilisation after a long day hiking through the Norwegian wilderness. To get there we had to climb mountains, trek through miles of snow, overcome passing gumboot wearing Swedes who giggled at our less than impressive footwear, cross a dangerous snow bridge and make it 22km back to the point that we started at two days ago.
We left our warm mountain hut in the morning with a dry set of clothes and packed lunch of pickle and jarlsberg sandwiches and immediately started the hike uphill. We spent the good part of the morning making it to the top but from lunch onwards it was all downhill. There were more deer along the way and even the odd inquisitive grouse.
The traditional end to the trip would have been to stay in the mountain hut at the end of the walking leg at Gjevilvashytta, however we finished with plenty of light in the day and so jumped in the car and started heading in the direction of Bergen, our final destination in Norway.
