why greece?

Day -28: Continuing our series “reasons for visiting this country”, Andy has asked me to explain why we’re going to Greece.

There are lots of amazing destinations on our itinerary, but the one place I can say I’ve always wanted to see is Greece. What’s not to admire about a place that invented democracy, Pythogoras’ Theorem and feta cheese?

Looking in the Lonely Planet, names like Delphi, Knossos and Mycenae resonate with history and myth, while Greek islands instantly makes me think of white-washed buildings, jagged cliffs and a blue sea.

This trip has an underlying theme of “things I want to see before I have children”. It’s even occurred to me that if I don’t visit a country now, I may never make it. And when I applied that test to all the countries on my mental itinerary (you know the one you keep in reserve just in case), the one place that I couldn’t pass over was Greece.

So, that’s why.
