students and travellers inn, athens

Days 20-21: Back in Athens, somewhat unexpectedly, we needed a simple and cheap place to stay. The Students’ Inn was the fourth place I called and the only one that had either a bed or a room free, and then only because of a late cancellation.

You couldn’t quibble with the location, right in the heart of the Plaka within 5 minutes walk from the Acropolis. The building itself was a little shambolic: we needed to climb a set of stairs, take two right turns and then descend another set of stairs to find our little Room 33.

We were probably lucky not to be in the dorm in Room 38, down a further two sets of stairs in an airless basement room, the door of which a former visitor had wryly marked “Alien Workshop”.

Simple facilities were made up for by free internet access and a helpful staff with good attitude.
