Day -34: By now, planning for the trip is well underway. In fact, we’ve been planning for the trip in some shape or form since, in a flash of inspiration, we starting saving up for it more than four years ago.

After listing all the places that we wanted to visit, we needed to cut it down to a manageable number that we could logically link together without too much travel hassle. South America was reluctantly dropped after we came to the belated realisation that it’s half a world a way from everywhere else; Norway was added towards the end because that’s where my brother Tim has been working for the last few years.

To date, we’ve booked cheap flights as far as Oslo, then back to London and onward to Greece. From there, we’ll be travelling overland to Egypt. I’ve already picked up my international driving permit (for a road trip in mainland Greece) and we’ve collected the visa forms for India and Syria, the only two countries on our confirmed itinerary that require a visa that we can’t obtain on arrival.

There’s plenty left to do before the day of our departure, but I think it’s fair to say that we’re on track.
